The author of Blue On Black took me on a ride to a new horizon with this one.
The story was first published in the 2010 anthology Blue on Black (Harry Bosch, #14.5; Harry Bosch Universe, #20.5)Bringing a new meaning to 'short story', Connelly delivers a swift story that pairs Harry Bosch with Rachel Walling. This was spectacular. Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of [Blue on Black] is a fresh new take on the Steampunk genre, combining imaginative technology with mind twisting mystery and adventure. This one was great and we even get some interaction with a character familiar to longstanding readers, Rachel Walling.
Too much of the "so clever to not answer any questions" just meant that I didn't much care about the motivations behind anyone's actions. It felt like it was well thought out and had a lot of depth to be explored. This book has seriously jumped to the very top of my absolutely favorite books list. I know where it comes from but I never understood why even that thing was made so complicated. Learn to play guitar by chord / tabs using chord diagrams, transpose the key, watch video lessons and much more. Harry believes he knows who is responsible for their deaths, but he has had no luck coming up with actual evidence. And I still don't know what the title actually means. I can't even begin to list all the things I love about it, though I must say I wasn't in the mood to enjoy reading anything when I first picked this up and ... wow, 12 hours and some later I'm just blown away. Interesting characters, good sense of the world, and a very complex plot...which is where things got bogged down and bolloxed up. Thanks!
I debated even reviewing it (when I say this is a short story I am not kidding I read it in less than seven minutes.) The world building... a bit less. Short but pointless. It’s not all neatly handed to us: we need to I don't think I've ever encountered a 380 page book that took quite THIS LONG to read. Like there was a prequel that explained some basic things that I had missed. Blue on Black is a short Harry Bosch detective story that finds Harry solving a serial killer investigation. Two women seem to have gone missing and LAPD Detective Harry Bosch has a strong suspicion that an avid fisherman named Denninger is the culprit.
There is a great idea here but it is not big enough to flesh out into a novel. I know that the main character/narrator felt the same way, dropped into a strange world that no one would explain and it was intentional to the POV of the story, but it was a little too much and kept pulling me out of the story and kept me kind of detached and irritated (and keeps me from now giving this 5 stars). The true story of a British whistleblower who leaked information to the press about an illegal NSA spy operation designed to push the UN Security Council into sanctioning the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The film stars Naomie Harris, Tyrese Gibson, Frank Grillo, Mike Colter, Reid Scott, and Beau Knapp, and follows a rookie police officer who goes on the run after she witnesses a murder. The romance was slow building, but once it got started, it was hot. While a bit heavy-handed and slow-paced in places, the book offers great world building, excellent characterizations, a twisted pretzel of a plot, and a dash of romance. Two women seem to have gone missing and LAPD Detective Harry Bosch has a strong suspicion that an avid fisherman named Denninger is the culprit. This story partially illustrates the changes in publishing that have taken place since the advent of the internet. The author did an amazing job with all of that. Your feedback will be reviewed. What a great short story by Connelly! It was barely a short chapter. Just like a tear in a river, or putting cold on ice, it's an empty gesture that is essentially meaningless. That seems to be a staple of this author’s work; she expects a lot from her readers.
