This is one of those obscure films that genre fans MUST see! A quirky original 80s film with a great opening title sequence, good slow motion action scenes and good gore, but the spa set itself looks cheap and Hokey, not like a real gym. The camp factor is high, but again, it's not on purpose. This one is worth the watch Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. We watched this movie as part of a monthly 'Bad Movie Night' that we host. It was so 80's it almost seemed like a characiture, yet it wasn't. The effects were straight out of the 80's. You have to admit murders in a Spa/Gym is hilarious. I'd never heard of Death Spa before but I was pleasantly surprised by how good this movie was. A reporter and her cameraman connect a surviving Jonestown leader and a TV exec's missing son to a drug war where jungle installations are being massacred by an army of natives and a skilled white assassin. A detective embarks on a mission to track down a woman in L.A.'s seedy nightclubs, only to come face-to-face with a blood-thirsty cult of lethally beautiful prostitutes. A group of sadistic mercenaries kidnap people off the streets and set them loose on the grounds of their secret camp, so the "students" at the camp can learn how to track down and kill their prey. They're all very colorful and memorable. Butrick's role in the film was his last before his death, while Parsons's role marked her feature film debut as an actress.

The effects were cool, the entertainment level high, and on the horror spectrum, I'd rate this a 10.
