Gilas Pilipinas was one of the first local teams affected in the COVID-19 outbreak.The Philippine national team was supposed to debut with a home game against Thailand in the 2021 FIBA-Asia Cup qualifiers, but that game, originally set for Feb. 20 at the Big Dome, was postponed for a later date.Gilas instead went to Jakarta and played Indonesia on Feb. 23, resulting in a win for the Philippines.The next window for Gilas Pilipinas in the Asia Cup qualifiers are supposed to be in November later this year and in February next year, but with the COVID-19 outbreak, both windows have yet to be confirmed.Gilas still also has to play Thailand at home, whenever that's scheduled.Specific dates for all tournaments have yet to be ironed out by FIBA, but following a meeting by the Executive Committee, basketball's world governing body announcement new dates for all its major tournaments.For the major tournament concerning Gilas, the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup has been moved by two weeks from the original schedule of August 3-15 to the revised schedule of August 17-29.The new schedule was agreed upon to avoid conflict with the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which has been moved a year and will now be played from July 23-August 8.How the rest of the qualifying windows will be scheduled remains to be seen.
