Swell enough, you think, as ‘Bring You Back’ kicks in – all ninety seconds of it – and returns to Scars territory. A constant downcast mood lingers. ‘Chimes’, which closes the album after what is possibly the most static series of drones here (the eighteen minute ‘Hope’) is notable for its flippancy. Brian is owner of Silber Records, a painter, comic book creator and experimental musician. Shifts on ‘Lack of Response’ are extraordinarily unsettling. As it progresses further, similarly sturdy tones enter the picture at slightly different pitches and Mitchell spends the entirety allowing them to weave around one another. ‘Please Just Leave Me Alone’ is lonelier. Sometimes you need a quick break from the rest of the world. This extended testing phase was designed to more closely mimic real-world settings.
