When fishing Minnesota, it is hard to find a better multi-species lake than Lake Vermilion. The second week of the walleye season has had some very unstable weather, to say the least! I still have my Philadelphia Eagles hat from when I was 6 that I wear during winter with a nice tassle on top!Thanks for the report Mark! The fish bit very light. I am having withdrawls! Anybody trying leeches or crawlers?People are getting some fish on leeches now havent heard much about crawlers Walleyes are almost always catchable in those areas year around!I fished the mud today with clients from 8:00am to 11:00am and we boated 24 walleyes.The bite has really picked up for us!. Walleye fishing does change to deeper water, later change of light into night. Some nice fish have been boated coinciding with pressure changes and fronts moving in. I'll throw some customers your way.Today was the best day since the opener, Tried a few "regular" spots and then very deep and very shallow. Walleyes are sitting on breaks, rocks, points, etc., easily picking off hex larvae that is essentially floating into mouths of hungry eyes. If you have good luck in one area with that chara/sand grass, look for more areas like that and duplicate it, and I guarantee you are going to put more walleyes in the net.”Next time you head north for some hot fishing action, don’t overlook the Lake Vermilion weed walleye bite.
