The Prof. with the baseball cap, WTF does he look like?He doesn't look like a genius, or a savant. I am glad I read this article I really enjoyed learning about this topic. This article was extremely fascinating to read. Lol. :)There is much that is exceptionally vulgar about the human science of the mind and its arrogant and insensitive stigmatization of human beings - the real truth is that they are nothing other than blind ignorant humans ( usually middle class with monstrous egos) who feel about in the dark and cause more harm than good. If men invented the wheel, women invented language.
I have a passion for volunteering and helping those in need as well as expanding my knowledge in any way that I can.
I remember everything I've ever read and my visual memories are like movies that play back randomly with the corresponding year attached.
It’s great to read that the disabilities that may come with these syndromes are overcome by unique talents.
Seems like this doc is touching on the tip of the iceberg on what Savants mean to neuro science and humans in general.A well-made and thought-provoking--if not occasionally mind-blowing--documentary on the incredible mental skills of people once diagnosed as being "mentally retarded." Using Raymond? His house, which also doubled as the institution in which he worked during the 1800s, has since been converted into the Langdon Down Museum of Learning Disability, which today exhibits much of Dr. Down’s work and discoveries. The one-note first tune is worse than the 2nd, if that's possible. In fact, he was enrolled in piano lessons as a child and remembers being very reluctant and disinterested in playing. What I found to be the most interesting was how not all people with savant syndrome have autism, I am glad that you put this in your article to clear up that myth. I’m glad that movies and television shows are being produced to raise awareness about Savant syndrome. Ha ha. Never been so close to evil till now.....and worst part is he f--ked with the doctores heads and became a creature trying to sadisticlly real me and kids back into his controll....frk iowa cops wont listen to me eithr in our county because they all know him...how the hell do i get him charged for class d felony when he talks his way out and everyone thinks it s me...............frk society sorry, I know how hard it is to be near a psychopath/sociopath.
Maybe any finesse in his delivery was lost in translation...It was truly amazing to see so many rare cases of brain function.I wonder how anyone feels about the gender definitions given to brain structure. However, the term “savant” was not applied to these people who displayed unusually exceptional talent until around 1887 when J. Langdon Down, a British doctor who also discovered Down syndrome, described ten people with savant syndrome as “idiot savants.” At the time of its discovery, this was the most common term used when referencing these extraordinary people; however, Dr. Down did not like using this term and even apologized for using it. Advanced science provides a great reach into the depths of neurology, but scientists are still left to determine the interpretation of these excursions within their theoretical paradigms.
I am in awe of the great work that has been done in neurology, and what is possible in the future, but I also worry about the manner in which the language of the field is sometimes applied literally to explain the human condition.A previous post rightfully pointed out that the title of the film is 'Beautiful Minds', yet it revolves primarily around brain function. Why are they not well paid to solve REAL math problems at the vanguard of numerical discovery? What (piano) music was used in part 5/5 about halfway?
Savant skills are strongly linked to autism; 10–30% of people with autism may demonstrate a savant skill. According to an article written by Leon K. Miller, the mere existence of savant syndrome “has been used as evidence for both ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’ positions in the debate about the origins of exceptional skill.”Since the first discussions of its discovery in 1887, much progress has been made by medical professionals in the understanding of savant syndrome. They alternate. Great article, I am so happy I took the time and read it.This was a great and inspiring article about savant syndrome and the amazing capabilities that come along with it. In 1994, Cicoria was involved in an accident that many individuals have an irrational fear of — being struck by lightning.
To say that one brain type is male, while the other is female seems to drip of determinism. When he was four years old, Daniel had bouts of epilepsy that, along with his autism, seemed to have brought about his savant abilities.
